It's been quite a while since I've posted anything.  No particular reason for this, unless it would be Facebook.  I don't post a lot there, either, but I do enjoy playing "Bouncing Balls."  I'm determined to get past the eighth level, and it's not easy! 

I was trying to think where I should begin.  I'm thinking Sadie Hawkins Day.  Oh, I know.  The kids today just call it, "Sadie's."  They'll do anything to be different!  Of course, that's what they called it back in Brett's day, too, and that was a number of years ago. 

Bethany asked Alex to the dance.  No one just asks a person to the dance anymore.  Even that has turned into a major production.  Bethany and a friend glued about 50 kinds of candy to a poster containing the invitation.  Shoot!  I don't have a picture of that!

The kids went together in a group.  The girls dressed as the Spice Girls, of all things (Bethany was "Baby").  The boys went as the Backstreet Boys.  Or 'N Sync.  Hmmmm....which one were they....I don't think it makes any difference.  Alex's shirt says, "Joey."  I wasn't into either of those boy bands, so I don't know which one had a Joey.

These groups - the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync - these are the oldies for these young whippersnappers today.  I guess their going back in time to dress like a '90s band is like my generation getting a kick out of putting on an old poodle skirt and bobby socks.  Speaking of which, my mom made me wear bobby socks LONG after they were out of style.

Happy Halloween

I hope you're all having a happy Halloween!  We aren't as decorated, outside, as we have been in the past (we've got plenty of things going on inside).  The old decorations have seen better days and have been retired.  We are hoping to have a record high number of trick-or-treaters tonight.  Four.  Five, even.  I don't know what Bethany is planning, but this is the first year we haven't gotten her a costume.  I hate how time flies!  I will try not to cry about it.

We're planning on making Paula Deen's Old Time Beef Stew in our new dutch oven.  That seems kind of Halloween-y.  We normally make one of Bethany's favorites, Taco Soup (served with sweet cornbread) for Halloween, but I'm ready for a change!  We made that stew a couple of weeks ago - actually, Tim did, all by himself - and it was absolutely perfect.  Good job, Baby!!!!

About the dutch oven:  I feel kind of silly not having one of these things until this late stage of my life.  I had listed it on my pre-birthday list, and Tim was good enough to let me order one from Amazon.com.  I also have my first cast-iron skillets.  I wish it made me feel young, that I'm just starting out, and not that I'm just ridiculously late to the game.  Maybe that is still yet to come.

Momentary Confusion

I've got a couple of football games already recorded this morning.  I'm looking forward to watching them (Nebraska and Kansas, please win).  To get in the mood, I'm watching these videos of Evan's Spirit of Houston Marching Band from a couple of weeks ago (thanks for the links, Courtney).  Enjoy!

Actually, I don't know what I'M THINKING!  Bethany's Homecoming Dance is tonight!  I must have been thrown off by Bethany, who IS ASLEEP!  It's noon!  Time's a-wastin'!  Sheesh.  The fun has just begun.

Awww!!

Bethany received this last weekend.  She's on Cloud 9.  I'm trying to decide which threats and warnings we'll be giving the young man.

It seems like only a year since we were in the midst of the Homecoming season.  Oh, that's right!  It was a year ago!  I was hoping to not repeat it.  These occurrences, which mark the advancing years of my children, don't exactly thrill me.  Ask Evan.  But, you know me, always willing to be a good sport.  Make the best of things.  Only the best for my kids, that's what I always say. 

If you're wondering why I'm flailing away here, it's because I was informed I needed to say more than what I had originally posted (which was the first paragraph up there, and that's where I'm still stuck, really, in my thought process).  Oh, let's see. 

I am quite impressed with Wesley's idea for asking Bethany to the dance!  Not only was his invitation pretty awesome, he did a great job on the song.  You're a sweetheart, Wesley!
